The unions at Air New Zealand Engineering and Logistics announced that the strike originally scheduled for December 21 would be extended to three days. Three strike notices were published for the days of 21, 22 and 23 December.
The news came after Monday’s negotiations, which extended late into the night as officials and shop stewards tried to reach an agreement. Negotiations are still going on today.
Union members voted overwhelmingly in favor of industrial action against reductions in sick leave and overtime.
Anita Hawthorne, General Manager of Air New Zealand, said that at this stage no flights or flight cancellations were planned. “The airline will do everything in its power to get customers where they need to be this Christmas,” she said.
